Mbugua said he was grateful for the opportunity the people of Nakuru gave him to serve them and also for the space they accorded him to work in the last five years. "This period was instrumental in setting a firm foundation for the County to leap into greatness."

"There are some goods things that the first County Government of Nakuru has done, they were not for me but for the people and I am asking the new government to build on them," added Mbugua, he shelved his re-election ambitions, to support Kinyanjui, after consultations with his Jubilee Party leaders President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto."I have so much respect for the people of Nakuru and this is why I came out to stand with our incoming government. We had our share of challenges and we may have made our mistakes which should act as a lesson to the incoming government so they don't repeat the same faults," he said, Monday.Mbugua further indicated Nakuru was home to all of them, adding that "let's continue working together to better our county for a better today and a brighter tomorrow. Now I take the hat of an elder in the community."​
