Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has revoked the closure of Maai Maahiu sand harvesting sites.
Kinuthia said the closure of the sites was arrived without due consultation from the concerned parties .
“The stand -off involved in the Maa Maahiu sand harvesting sites did not include all the stakeholders' participation,” said Kinuthia.
Last week Naivasha Sub-County Commissioner Abraham Kemboi indefinitely closed all sand harvesting sites in Maai Maahiu.
The decision was arrived after eruption of misunderstanding between rival youth groups over the ownership of the sites and external influence from traders.
Speaking on Monday at Maa Maahiu sand harvesting sites Kinuthia said that the sites should be opened to save residents who depend on it to eke a living.
“The closure of the sand sites have put the lives of more than 3000 youth at risk of committing crime,” said Kinuthia.
He said that the county government is monitoring the situation to address the issue with all stake holders.
“We have initiated a process to streamline the activities of Maai Maahiu to end the stand -off,” said Kinuthia.
Kinuthia said that the stand-off should be addressed amicably to ensure all those depending on the sites to earn a living are involved and benefit from the sites.
He however warned politicians agitating for violence in the stand off that the law would not spare them
