Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has accused the opposition of treason for planning a separate Madaraka day celebration in Nairobi.
Kinuthia pointed out that the move indicated lack of patriotism and dedication to the country.
He added that all was set for the celebration slated on Wednesday which will be graced by President Uhuru Kenyatta. This is the first time since independence that the celebrations are being held out of Nairobi.
Speaking in Nakuru on Saturday Kinuthia said the opposition doesn't have the interest of Kenyans.
“Where is thier patriotism? We only have one national celebration and they are behaving like we have a parallel government. The opposition leaders ought to set an example to the upcoming generation especially in respecting the current authority. It is the mandate of the leaders to ensure that we set the pace right,” said Kinuthia.
His views were echoed by Amani National Congress (ANC) leaders who condemned the proposal to have two parallel rallies.
ANC presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi said the different rallies would sow seeds of discord.
