Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugu has challenged Nakuru leaders to bury their hatchets and foster development issues in the county.
Speaking today in Nakuru at County Headquarters during the flagging off of two vehicles for the Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project – KISIP, Kinuthia urged local leaders to work for the benefit of all Nakuru residents.
“We were not elected to fight each other but to work for the residents to improve their lives,” said Kinuthia.
KISIP is a Sh1.5 billion project that upgrades informal settlements in Naivasha Sub County, and targets Kihoto, Kamere, and Karagita slums and other parts of the county.
KISIP, which is funded by the World Bank, French Development Agency, Swedish International Development Agency and the Government of Kenya for 15 municipalities has allocated Sh0.8 billion of Nakuru town.
Kinuthia said that the vehicles will oversee the project is well ahead of time.
“The vehicles will enable the project to be run effectively, and be completed in good time,” said Kinuthia.
The ground-breaking ceremony was graced by Nakuru legislators, MCAs, KISIP officials, project consultants and contractors.
Kinuthia said that the targeted areas will cover the construction of footpaths, drainage systems, erection of floodlights and sanitation.
He also said that the county government has responsibility to provide better housing units to its people.
He however refuted claims that his administration is dragging in the implementation of the project, and said the claims have been made by political detractors.
