Kenya's Wycliffe Kinyamal has become an instant hit, after winning the 800 m race on Thursday in Australia.
Kinyamal won Kenya's first gold medal, and his spectacular win has had Kenyans on social media singing his name.
before the win, many Kenyans have never heard of the budding athlete, who was making his senior debut at the games.

“Well done Wycliffe Kinyamal for winning the first Gold for Team Kenya in the Commonwealth Games men’s 800 meters. Wishing the entire team all the best,” President Uhuru Kenyatta wrote on Twitter in what is becoming his custom whenever the country revels in sporting glory.
“Congratulations to Wycliffe Kinyamal for winning the men’s 800 metres gold and the first for Team Kenya at the Commonwealth Games in Australia. A brilliant, dogged performance,” his Deputy, William Ruto added.
Cabinet Secretary for Sports and Heritage, Rashid Echesa was not left out either; “Congratulations to Kenya’s Wycliffe Kinyamal for Winning Gold in the men’s 800m gold medal in 1:45.11. Compatriot Jonathan Kitilit was 6th in 1:46.12 in the men 800m.
