The program is a follow up to a promise made by Governor Lee Kinyanjui during campaign tours in different parts the County.

Speaking in Subukia Sub County when he officially launched the programme in Waseges Ward, Kinyanjui reiterated his commitment to ensuring that rural access roads are in good condition.

“In the past farmers have had difficult times transporting farm produce to the market but with the improvement of the roads then the problems we have had in the past will no longer be there,” he said.

The county chief added that the ongoing county project was a first aid measure to the roads before the national government embarks on upgrading the one major road in the area to bitumen standard.

Improvement of other access roads under the county government portfolio will, however, be carried out by contractors depending on the award of tenders.

“Waseges is a semi-arid area and my government will pump in more resources especially in the education sector by employing ECDE teachers and initiating a feeding programme so that cases of pupil’s absenteeism can be avoided,” he said.

On his part, Subukia Mp Kinuthia Gachobe who also attended the function said with the start of the programme, employment opportunities for the locals will be available.

“With this in place, I know employment opportunities will come. I would, therefore, call on residents with knowledge on operating various machineries to make applications for jobs once opportunities arise” he said.

Acting CeC for roads Eng. Lucy Wanjiku said that the internal programme will be carried out so long as there are no rains.

She pointed out that her docket will ensure that the work is carried out fast before March- April rains begin.
