In a bid to attain the coveted city status, Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui has assured that the town is set for a major facelift that will see among other things the infrastructural system upgraded massively.

Speaking with the Nation over the weekend, the county boss reiterated his commitment to see the lakeside town acquire the elusive 'city status' that has been dreamt of by many residents.

"My administration will set aside Ksh 1.8 billion to revamp the road network  in the county," he said.

Already several roads leading to and from the town including the Shabab and Kenlands stretch that are riddled with potholes are being patched up.

According to the Urban Areas and Cities Act 2011, for an urban area to be classified as a city, it must have a population of at least 250,000 residents based on the last population census data.It mist also have an intergrated urban araea or city development plan and should demonstrate the capacity to generate sufficient revenue to sustain its entire operation.

In the 2015/2016 financial year,Nakuru was fourth in revenue collection with Ksh 2.3 billion behind Nairobi, Mombasa and Kiambu.

The country currently boasts of only three cities comprising the capital Nairobi,Mombasa and Kisumu.
