Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has embarked on the revival of the ailing pyrethrum sector.
Speaking during a consultative meeting of key stakeholders at Sarova Woodlands Hotel in Nakuru on Wednesday, Kinyanjui said his government is committed to ensure pyrethrum farmers have reasons to smile again.
The first-time governor said that the sub-sector has not been performing well over years because of different bottlenecks along the value chain.
He also said that the delay in the implementation of reforms in the sub-sector has affected the production of the cash crop.
"We have in the past made a serious false start but it is now high time we put the bad beginning behind us and give farmers renewed hope to grow the neglected crop,'' said Kinyanjui.
The governor blamed lack of technical advice and low-quality planting materials to the woes facing farmers.
He said that radical changes will be put in place in the next few weeks to revive the sector.
His government is collaborating with Egerton University to revamp the sector.
The meeting was also attended by Kephis Managing Director, Dr Esther Kimani.
She pledged to work with the governor to bring change in the industry.
