Renown political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has said Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui or his Kirinyaga counterpart Anne Waiguru are likely to inherit the Mt Kenya vote basket.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to retire after a second term in office.
This has led to jostling among Mt Kenya leaders as to who will take over from Kenyatta who is the region's current leader.
With no apparent heir to Uhuru, political pundits are throwing hypopthesis on post 2022 succession politics in the Mt Kenya region.
Ngunyi said the fact that Deputy President William Ruto, who is expected to be backed by the Jubilee for State House, attended Anne Mumbi Waiguru's swearing into office in Kirinyaga spoke volumes.
He also considers Lee Kinyanjui a possible handpick by Kenyatta to guard the interests of the region.
Others deemed fit for the bill are former Kigumo MP Jamlek Kamau, Devolution CS Mwangi Kiunjuri, Murang;a Governor Mwangi wa Iria and Martha Karua.
