An outspoken member of Kisii County assembly has accused police for failing to curb the rising incidents of theft in his ward.
Speaking at Kiogoro trading centre on Wednesday, Samuel Apoko said he had evidence to show that some Kisii police officers were behind the persistent theft targeting business people from his Kiogoro ward and threatened to take a motion in the assembly to compel police commandant to transfer some officers.
“I am a very disappointed man with the way security issue is being handled. My people have been victims with some criminal gangs working with some officers to loot people. I will not sit down till I see some of these officers transferred or sacked in compliance with the law,” he said.
He called for compensation of people who had allegedly lost millions of shillings to the gangsters claiming that the government should be held responsible.
“Security is a matter of the government and this is their chance to ensure that all those who have lost their properties are compensated. This government is sleeping and something urgent ought to be done,” he added.
Kisii OCPD Solomon Kiragu dismissed the allegations, terming them ‘baseless and flawed’ besides challenging the legislator to record statement with CID for investigations.
