The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) has assured that Kipchoge Keino stadium in Eldoret will be ready to host some of the matches for the continental competition set to be held in Kenya for the first time.
LOC director Herbert Mwachiro said construction work at the stadium are ongoing with constructors now at phase two.
Addressing the press after inspecting the stadium, Friday, Mwachiro allayed fears that the country will not be ready to host the event.
"We are working hard to ensure CHAN happens in Kenya and we are here today to ensure Eldoret hosts some of the CHAN games," Mwachiro noted."
There's time between now to December to compete the works. We are optimistic that by 31st December we shall be through and ready to hand over the stadium," he added.
2018 CHAN is set to kickoff in Kenya in January with Eldoret-based Kiochoge Keino stadium being among the five stadiums that will host group matches.
Other stadiums are Kinoru, Machakos, Nyayo and Kasarani.
Moi University School of Law and the Eldoret National Polytechnic grounds have been identified as training grounds for the teams that will be playing at Kipchoge Keino stadium.
