Former World Marathon record holder Wilson Kipsang says he will be seeking to get back his record in the Berlin Marathon scheduled for September 24.

Kipsang, who broke the Marathon World record at the same course in 2013 after clocking 2:03.23 before Dennis Kimeto, improved the mark a year later in the very same course to two hours, two minutes and 57 seconds believes he is in the best shape to set a new record.

Kipsang won the Tokyo Marathon in February in a course record time of two hours, three minutes and 58 seconds, the fastest time ever run on Japanese soil.

"My preparations towards Berlin has been going on very. After Tokyo I took a one month rest and by the look of things I will be in top shape come September 24," noted Kipsang in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet where he is preparing for the race.

"I have been eyeing to break the marathon record again in my preparations. I tried to break it last year but it was impossible because we didn't have enough cooperation from Bekele (Kenenisa) but I hope this time round they will cooperate," he added.

In the September 24 Berlin Marathon, Kipsang will be up against Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge and defending Berlin Marathon champion Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele both of whom will also be gunning for the world record.

This will be the first time the three of the world’s top marathon runners will competing against each other.
