Limuru MP John Kiragu has called on national and county governments to construct more technical and vocational institutions to absorb the 2014 KCSE candidates who did not meet the threshold points to join Universities.
He noted that the country has extra of 300,000 2014 KCSE candidates who will not make it to Universities after they failed to attain C+ in 2014 KCSE.
Speaking in Limuru Town on Wednesday, Kiragu expressed his worries over high rate of candidates who are shunned every year and who cannot proceed with learning simply because they did not attain the least grade to qualify to join Universities and there are not enough tertiary colleges to accommodate them as well.
The situation has gotten even worse by the fact that a similar batch of standard eight candidates who did not secure admissions in secondary schools also have the same fate of not going furthering their education.
“We have to think outside the box because if this issue is not addressed then these youth will indulge into criminal activities,” said Kiragu.
The MP said that the two forms of governments should construct more colleges to address the issue before it gets out of hand.
He said that the country is in shortage of semi and skilled professionals in the field of welding, masonry and other related disciplines.
Kiragu said that the presence of such colleges would would also help the country from importing professionals from a broad since such professionals would be readily available in the country.
He further urged parents to take their children to already existing local technical and vocational colleges to get skills that would help them to earn a living.
