Government spokesman Eric Kiraithe has slammed leaders from the opposition Nasa coalition accusing them of intoxicating youths before sending them out to go and demonstrate.

Kiraithe said on Tuesday that some of the youth who had earlier in the day protested against the Iebc in Nairobi and Kisumu towns were clearly intoxicated thanks to some of their leaders who had bought them bhang and illicit brews.

"It is very sad and unfortunate that instead of mentoring these young people, their leaders have resorted to intoxicating them so that they can carry out street protests", he said.

The former police spokesman also defended the police against accusations that they were using extra force against the protestors saying that some of them were dangerously armed with crude weapons and stones.

" The police will always use the least of force when confronting protestors, however, some of these guys are armed with crude weapons which can also result in the death of the officers. However, we so not condone extrajudicial killings", he said.

On Tuesday, some of the Nasa supporters took to the streets in Nairobi and Kisumu in a bid to try and force out some officials of the Iebc whom they accuse of bungling the August 8 polls.
