Government spokesman Eric Kiraithe has slammed Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi for advocating for the secession of the Coast region.Addressing journalists in Mombasa on Thursday, Kiraithe termed the push for Coast secession as pure ‘nonsense.’He said those advocating for secession are idlers who have no work to do.The government spokesperson further hit out at Joho and Kingi accusing the two ODM governors of allegedly using secession talks to bargain for 2022 politics. The tough-talking Kiraithe asked Joho and Kingi to first account for the public funds they have been receiving from the national government before pushing for secession.“If they (Joho and Kingi) can’t account for every cent they have been getting from the national government then they have no moral authority to advocate for secession,” said Kiraithe. He claimed that the push for Coast secession is divisionary and has a hidden political agenda.Governor Joho and Kingi last week met 12 Coast politicians where they agreed to start a consultative process that will see the region secede. The politicians claimed that the region has been marginalised economically, socially and politically by the current and previous regimes. However, a section of politicians and community elders have criticised Joho and Kingi, arguing that secession will cause more harm than good.
