Government spokesperson Eric Kiraithe speaks to the press in Mombasa on Friday. Photo/the-star.co.keOpposition leaders are free to boycott the August 8 polls but should not use lame excuses to incite Kenyans to violence, Erick Kiraithe, the government spokesperson has said.
Addressing the press on Friday in Mombasa, Kiraithe said the country has the greatest number of political candidates ever seen in its history who will vie even if NASA boycotts.
Karaithe noted that taking part in an election is a democratic right of an individual.
"We want everyone to vote peacefully. But if you just chose not to vote, kindly go home peacefully and have a good sleep, but using lame excuses to conspire and incite Kenyans to violence are not acceptable," he said.
He accused NASA leaders of fighting IEBC over ballot tendering.
Kiraithe claimed the Opposition wants to derail the elections.
"As a government we view this effort as a carefully designed conspiracy to use extra-constitutional means to secure political power in this country," he said.
