Meru senator Kiraitu Murungi found himself in unfamiliar situation when he had his speech periodically interrupted by angry NASA supporters.
The turnout of events could be an awakening call to President Uhuru Kenyatta given the region has solidly backed him over years.
When he was invited to address a gathering in Meru, furious opposition supporters started chanting pro-NASA slogans forcing the veteran politician to dance to their tunes.
Meru region has been a key battle ground between Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga with Odinga touring the region in a number of occasions.
Recently, Kenyatta had to postpone his trip to the vote rich region on what was attributed to animosity between Murungi and Meru governor Peter Munya.
While Munya will be defending his seat on a PNU ticket, Murungi will run on a Jubilee ticket and is expected to run presidential campaigns in the region.
Although the region voted for Jubilee overwhelmingly, NASA strategists have categorized it along with Tharaka Nithi as possible battle grounds ahead of August polls.
