Jubilee’s Mt. Kenya East points man Kiraitu Murungi’s political fortunes grew from bad to worse after being embarrassed in presence of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
Both Kenyatta and Ruto were on two days visits to the vote rich Meru region which culminated on Saturday following forays made by opposition team NASA into the region.
Despite the presence of his bosses, Kiraitu, who is going for governorship, was not spared by locals in stopovers at Laare, Maua and Meru town.
At Laare, Uhuru and Ruto watched in disbelief as angry locals chanted slogans in solidarity with incumbent governor Peter Munya of PNU.
A tactical Kenyatta resolved to woo votes to reelect him and distanced himself from local politics, urging residents to make their own informed choices.
Initially, Kenyatta and Ruto were advocating for a six piece voting methodology but have been however met with hostility from locals.
Although his PNU party has resolved to back Kenyatta’s reelection, Munya was conspicuously missing from Kenyatta’s busy itinerary in the Mt. Kenya East region.
