Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi has praised Opposition chief Raila Odinga for postponing his much-awaited swearing in ceremony as the People's President.
Speaking on Tuesday during the Jamhuri Day celebrations, the county chief noted that the move was dangerous and could have thrown the country into anarchy.
“I thank God for touching the heart of the former Prime Minister to abandon his dangerous and ill-fated attempt to be illegally installed as President,” Kiraitu said.
“Kenya is not ripe for revolution and bloodshed. We want peace and prosperity," he added.
The NASA leader was scheduled to be sworn-in on Tuesday before the coalition called off the plans.
In a statement on Sunday, the Opposition coalition noted that the decision had been reached after wide consultations.
“We are not interested in sharing illegitimate dictatorial power. We also want to assure Kenyans that we remain fully on course in pursuit of electoral justice," the statement read by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi said in part.
