Meru governor Peter Munya has called on Meru residents to reject Senator Kiraitu Murungi's gubernatorial candidature during the forthcoming polls.
Kiraitu is seeking to unseat Munya on a Jubilee Party ticket, whereas Munya will be looking to recapture his seat on a PNU Party ticket.
Speaking during a series of political meetings in the county on Saturday, the outgoing Council of Governors chair linked his political woes to Deputy President William Ruto, accusing him of bankrolling Kiraitu to oppose him.
"Kiraitu is not that powerful. He is small..if he was alone in this I would have cut him down to size a long time ago," Munya said.
Munya has already hinted at vying for the presidency in 2022, the same time DP Ruto will be hoping to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He further disputed claims that he is a NASA supporter, affirming his support for the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kiraitu had accused the outspoken governor of bankrolling NASA political activities in the larger Meru region.
