Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi has downplayed the county Governor Peter Munya's ability to retain the position in the approaching August 8, 2017 general polls.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on NTV Tuesday, the senator expressed confidence of beating Munya and ascending to the position, saying that Munya has performed terribly as the county boss.

''He has failed and he knows it. For instance, his foreign investor hunting trips have proved futile despite spending millions of county funds making foreign visits, the investors are yet to come,'' said Kiraitu, who also blamed Munya's supposed underperformance on his outdated leadership style.

He accused the governor of being involved in violent politics with an aim of scaring away opponents and paralyzing their campaigns, attributing all of the recent violent encounters that have been witnessed in the region between the two leaders' supporters to Munya.

He also said that Munya is yet to identify Meru residents' priorities, hence his under performance.

''Despite being young, he is outdated and has an equally outdated administration mode which can only be traced back to the likes of Mobutu Sese seko. The people of Meru want a servant leader who will work for them and achieve good results,'' said Murungi, the Jubilee Party candidate.

Munya is vying on a PNU ticket.
