Senator Kiraitu Murungi has hit out at Meru Governor Peter Munya for not dissolving his Party of National Unity (PNU) and joining Jubilee Party.
Speaking at Equator Methodist Church of Kenya in Central Imenti during a Sunday service, the Meru Senator said by not folding and joining the Jubilee Party, PNU is a party in the dark and in the opposition.
"Munya is an adamant person. I even took him to President Uhuru Kenyatta to discuss this matter and he refused to listen. Let him take his own position on this matter," he said.
He further downplayed the installation of Munya as PNU party leader insisting the governor should not misconstrue his enthronement as a direct win for his re- election bid in next year's polls.
“Munya will not get anywhere. We are asking the Meru people to pray for him so that he can see the light," said the senator, who is eyeing the Meru governor's seat.
Murungi who was also accompanied by MPs Mithika Linturi (Igembe South) and Gideon Mwiti (Imenti Central) said aspirants intending to run on PNU's ticket would have a rough time in the next general elections.
“We have decided as Meru leaders the political vehicle to be in is JP. Those who want to remain behind with bicycles and other means, it’s up to them," said Murungi.
