[Photo|Kiraitu Murungi]Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi held bilateral talks with the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Kenya, Stefano Dejak at his Muthaiga residence in Nairobi. During the hour-long engagement, Kiraitu reached out to the EU Mission in Kenya to consider cooperating with the Meru County government in agriculture, water and renewable energy, particularly solar, environmental conservation as well as improvement of roads. He also asked the EU to make interventions that will help cushion Miraa farmers in the wake of the ban of Khat in Europe, a move that has had negative economic impact on farmers in Meru County. A partnership between the county government and the EU towards the sinking of boreholes was also mooted.Nationally, the governor challenged the EU, through the Council of Governors (CoG) to engage the 47 devolved units directly, with the blessings of the National government through the Ministry of Devolution on development matters to uplift the living standards of the people.
