Former Devolution CS Ann Waiguru has mocked a section of Kirinyaga County politicians who on Saturday conducted what they termed a Jubilee Party delegates convention to elect the party officials.
Waiguru, who has declared her interest to run for the county top seat, said the meeting was illegal and a selfish way of advancing participants political ambitions.
"There is no election which has been endorsed by the party hence the offices remain vacant. So far even the party national officials have not been named. How can we have county officials? These are just bogus officials," she said at a funeral in Kirinyaga.
On Saturday a group of leaders from the region convened at A.C.K church hall, Kutus and 'elected' the county party officials.
The incumbent governor Joseph Ndathi was elected the party's patron while his close ally and former nominated councillor James Muriithi Kang'ara was named the party chairperson.
Nyamu Mwara who chairs the Kirinyaga County Liquor Licensing Board took the secretary general position. The organising secretary post went to Eric Muchina. The event was attended by Kirinyaga county women representative Winnie Karimi Njuguna and by a number of members of Kirinyaga county assembly.
The chairman of the steering committee that mediated the merger of Jubilee affiliate parties Kiraitu Murungi confirmed that the party is yet to conduct both county and national elections.
"Once the national structures are set, the officials will organise and facilitate the creation of county and branch offices as the law requires. They will also preside over party launches in each of the 47 counties,” Kiraitu told The Sunday Nation.
