Police in Kirinyaga have gunned down a suspected thug in a botched robbery attempt at Mbiri village in Njukiine Ward.
His two accomplices escaped.
Police reported that they caught up with the gang when they attempted to break into market stores.
According too John Kimotho, a witness, the robbers were involved in other shop breaking robberies from about 2am.
“After stealing from one shop, they would move to the next and ransack cash boxes before breaking into a nearby bar where they reportedly threatened the attendant with death unless he surrendered all the cash,” he said.
Kimotho added that he was awoken by loud bangs caused by the metal bars which the suspects were using to break doors into the shops because he lives nearby.
Kirinyaga East Sub-county OCPD Hassan Hussein confirmed the incident and said he would address the press after a meeting with his forces.
