Kirobon Boys’ Secondary School which is located in Rongai under Nakuru County has been closed down for a period of one week after one of its dormitories was gutted down by fire on Monday.
According to Rongai Sub-County Director of Education Janet Ochieng who made the announcement on Tuesday morning. The period will allow investigations into the incident.
Ochieng said no casualties were reported and the fire is suspected to have been caused by an electric fault.
The fire which broke out at around 8:00 pm this Monday destroyed the dormitory that housed 160 students.
On 12th June 2016, the Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary-General Wilson Sossion claimed that recent destruction of property in schools was as a result of to students’ anger over the extension of the second term.
Over 15 schools have been burnt in the last two weeks among them being Shiners Boys Secondary School in Nakuru and Nyamache Boys Secondary School in Kisii, where three dormitories razed down.
