With over 80,000 votes up for grabs, Kisauni is one of the most populous constituencies in Mombasa.
In addition, it is the heartbeat of Mombasa politics. The constituency has seen a bee-hive of political activities over the past two weeks as governor aspirants pitch camp in search of votes. If the happenings of the past two weeks are anything to go by, then the Mombasa Governor seat will be won or lost in Kisauni.Jubilee aspirant Suleiman Shahbal has made more trips into the constituency than anyone else in his quest to get victory against Governor Hassan Joho in his own perceived turf.Joho hails from Kisauni and so does Shahbal's running mate Ananiah Mwaboza.Mwaboza represented the constituency for three years before losing to Joho who went on to represent the constituency in parliament for one full term. Going by that, the two enjoy significant support here.Wiper candidate Hassan Omar hails from Old Town which is in Kisauni Constituency. In 2013, he received backing from the constituency and went ahead to win the Senator position. And as such, his influence in the constituency shouldn't be ignored, as he frequently visits the sub-county.Nyali MP Hezron Awiti on the other hand has too much knowledge of the constituency considering Nyali was hived off from the larger Kisauni. He has a huge following in Kongowea which he often regards as his stronghold.
