The MP further said his step-brother, Salim Hanjary Bedzimba, who was killed by police last week, was not a terrorist.

Salim and Kibwana Ahmed Abdallah alias Rajab were killed on Thursday following a police raid on a house in Junda, Kisauni Constituency.

Kisauni Deputy OCPD Walter Abondo said the two were members of the al-Shabaab terrorist group, and were suspected to have been planning to carry out attacks in Mombasa.

The OCPD said they carried out the raid following a tip-off from members of the public, adding that three grenades and several explosive materials which they suspect were being used to make Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) were recovered from the house.

However, the MP has dismissed the claims saying Salim was a county official and not a terrorist.

"Salim has been an employee of the Mombasa County government since 2013. He is well known by police and locals. Why not arrest and charge him before a court?” asked Bedzimba.

The MP also denied links to the Wakali Kwanza criminal gang, which has been accused of sexually harassing women in the area by sucking their breasts.

Speaking on Friday when he visited Salim's family in Bilima, Kisauni, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho condemned the killings, terming them as a human rights violation.

The governor called for an immediate end to extra judicial killings in the constituency, urging police to carry out their investigations in a professional manner.

Joho's sentiments were reiterated by human rights activists, who called for dialogue among various stakeholders, in a bid to curb insecurity in the county.
