Hundreds of primary school children and villagers on Wednesday benefited from an anti-jigger campaign launched by Kisauni Member of Parliament Ali Mbogo.

Mbogo who expressed concerns over the problem said that it was the time the community fight jiggers until the constituency was completely clean of the problem.

He said that he has been disturbed by the situation for a long time and since he had space, the zeal and partners to work with, he will strive to eradicate jiggers in all the affected area within Kisauni constituency.

Speaking at Maunguja primary school where over 3,000 pupils and villagers had camped to benefit from the campaign, Mbogo who led his team in washing and treating the affected pupils and villagers said that all efforts will be implemented to ensure no jigger interferes with the lives of Kisauni residents and especially children.

“Jiggers cause disabilities and death if the victim is not well treated and monitored, we have to do what it takes to prevent that,” he assured the pupils, teachers, and parents at Maunguja Primary school.

The programme which is implemented in partnership with Ahadi Kenya trust also saw over 3,000 pupils from Maunguja, Baraka, Voroni and Marimani primary schools benefit from pairs of rubber shoes to prevent them from jigger infestation.

Mbogo later visited the whole of Maunguja, Baraka, Voroni, and Marimani conducting fumigation exercise in homes so as to curb the problem.

“We have conducted a donor to door anti-jigger campaign as well, but we urge locals to maintain high standards of cleanliness in their homes,” added Mbogo.

He said that the campaign will be conducted in all the affected areas where both children and their parents will be washed, treated and given pairs of shoes.

Ahadi Kenya trust promised to work with Mr. Mbogo so as to completely eradicate the problem in Kisauni constituency.
