A voter has moved to the Mombasa high court to challenge the election of Asha Mohammed Hussein as the duly elected Mombasa county women representative.

In his affidavit, Saad Yusuf, said that the election was not free, fair and just and should be nullified and fresh polls for the Women representative seat is conducted.

Speaking outside the Mombasa law courts on Wednesday after filing the petition, Saad said that Asha was not validly elected since most of the polling stations in Kisauni had more votes surpassing the number of registered voters.

Kisauni had a total of 126, 151 votes a figure that according to the petitioner is way below the total number of votes cast for all the 10 women representative candidates.

“Apart from that figure remember we had rejected and disputed votes these figures do not tally” added Mr. Saad.

He want the results of the Women representative race in Mombasa County be nullified and fresh elections be held in a transparent manner.

He said Mombasa county elections were marred by discrepancies and mostly in the Women representative race.

“We are here to fight for a transparent process that will be used in future  election and not with any intention of politically fighting the elected leaders” he added.

In the 8th August general polls, Asha Mohammed Hussein garnered 185, 676 votes on an ODM ticket against Amina Abdallah of jubilee party who got 87,223 votes in a race that attracted a total of women contestants.

On Friday last week, former Mombasa senator and Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Hassan Omar Hassan filed a petition at the Mombasa high court demanding nullification of the gubernatorial election results.

Omar termed the Mombasa gubernatorial race as a total sham and that Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho was not validly elected.

Omar wanted the whole gubernatorial results which attracted five aspirants be nullified and fresh polls be conducted.
