Speaking in his office on Thursday, Mutisya said many operators are reportedly violating the 5-11pm rule and his team plans to carry out a routine check to ensure the law is followed.

He also warned customers who would be found taking liquor before time and tipped that they will also face same consequences as wines and spirits and bar owners.

”It has come to my attention that a number of bars are operation before or after stipulated time. The law shall catch up with them and the consequences will be perilous,” said Mutisya.

“It does not mean that we will be targeting bar owners. Customers also have an obligation to ensure the law is followed to the latter and consequently, they will to be dealt with. Our officers will be moving across the town to ensure they perform the duties,” he said.

The police boss further cautioned bar owners and caretakers against allowing underage people to take liquor in their business premises.

“I would also wish to urge them to ensure only the grown-ups are allowed to enter into those bars. In case they allow underage people, we will also enforce the law as required,” Mutisya said.
