The second phase of processing avocados by the Kisii based avocado factory has been postponed due to dry spell experienced recently in most parts of Gusii land.
Speaking during an interview with this reporter, Australia Goldland Trade (the company which owns this plant) CEO Majid Ahon expressed his concern following delay of manufacturing of the raw products extracted from avocados which was set to commence its second phase by the start of March this year.
CEO Ahon said that all that were brought about by the drought which lowered the supply of raw product from the local farmers whom they heavily relied on.
“We could not manage to begin the process due to low supply of avocados as the drought hit everywhere, making it very difficult to get enough raw materials for the process,” said Ahon.
He however disclosed that they are relocating to a newly built structure by the start of May this year since the building which has been hosting their offices and the factory is rental adding that the new building which was funded by Kisii County government.
The factory which started mid-last year is expected to offer employment opportunities to a big number of youths in the county and is set to counter competition from middlemen whom have been exploiting uninformed avocado farmers by buying their products at a low price hence leaving local markets short of supply.
