Speaking at his office, Governor James Ongwae said that the county government will make funding to  the Sacco, and called on all bodaboda operators to join the Sacco, promising that it will give the riders loans at very low interest rates.

He said that the formation of the cooperative is in line with recommendations of the Motorcycle Task Force he formed early last year.

He added that he would like to see the bodaboda sector transformed into a profitable source of livelihood to the young people in the county of Kisii.

“My desire is to see this sector reorganized into a safe, profitable and sustainable source of livelihood for the youth,” said Ongwae.

The governor said the cooperative is a major step in the reorganization of the boda boda transport in the county.

He thanked the bodaboda leadership for working with the county to reroute operators in the Central Business District (CBD), to help ease congestion in the town.

Sacco chairman Michael Mose also said that the group will work with traffic officers to ensure members adhere to road safety rules and regulations.

Mose urged the members to register with the Sacco, adding that registration is only Sh100, as minimum monthly contribution.
