According to one of the victims, Jared Onderi, the course of the tragedy could not be established even as the county government's fire brigade struggled to contain the fire.

Onderi said at least eight houses were completely destroyed adding that the fire response team delayed to respond to calls from affected people.

"We have had at least eight houses completely burnt and we are yet to know what transpired. People have lost proprieties worth millions. The fire brigade took time to respond to our desperate calls," he said.

"The county government should chip in and compensate the affected people. It will be difficult for us to resume our normal lives with such massive losses," he added.
