The information from CID headquarters brought anxiety to students, who were busy preparing for their forthcoming KASNEB examinations with the institution’s proprietor, Richard Onyinkwa, ordering them to temporarily vacate the premises.

According to Onyinkwa, Kisii police had identified Elimu centre where the college is located as a possible target besides Twins tower, which is owned by Kisii University.

“We had to take that affirmative action following directives by the police. They identified the institution as a possible target hence we had no choice other than closing down for safety of over 400 students,” Onyinkwa said.

Kisii OCPD Tom Mutisya confirmed the terror threats after the police had apprehended a man of Somali origin who had no identification card having a tip from a house owner who had allegedly received Sh20,000 as rent for his rental room.

“We ordered the closure as investigations go on about some unique cases we have been handling in the recent past. We arrested a man who is said to have been looking for a rental house, accepting to pay unusual price of Sh20,000 instead of the usual Sh3,500 per room,” he said.

The man is being questioned by the CID officers in the town and he joins a similar case where two people of Somali origin are in police custody facing charges of being in the country illegally.
