According to the commuters, the fare has constantly been hiking and they don’t know the reason as to why.

Peter Makori, a daily commuter from Kisii to Ogembo say they used to pay Sh60, and they are paying Sh100 currently, even after the fuel prices went down.

“We want the bodies concerned with the transport sector to check on this issue because we are the ones suffering when it comes to paying high fares,” said Makori

However, some drivers and conductors in the town are saying there are some fraudsters, especially mostly motorbike operators, who are conning ignorant customers.

Innocent Raini, a driver on the Kisii-ogembo route said since not every consumer of these products has enough information on the prices; the ERC has a responsibility to move around the suburbs to monitor the fuel prices set by the retailers and stop the conmen.

Raini also added that the reason as to why they raise fare is because all petrol stations in Kisii have different price tags.

“The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) must not relax after recently reducing the prices of petroleum products, they have to ensure the new prices are adhered to by all retailers in the country,” added Raini.
