Speaking on Saturday in Kisii, CeC Sagwe asked residents to practice various agricultural activities to enable them get empowered economically.

He identified horticultural farming as one of the highest income generating activity and therefore asked the residents to take it serious.

“I ask Kisii residents to practice farming of various crops since this will enable them get money to support their families and to educate their children. Farming is the surest way of getting constant flow of money,” appealed Sagwe.

Sagwe said horticultural farming would help farmers in time of drought since majority of people delay to plant subsistence crops due to lack of rainfall that hit the country during planting season.

“Through vegetable farming, residents will be able to provide for their families because they grow faster unlike other crops,” advised Sagwe adding that farmers should plant other short-term crops as well to help in confronting the looming hunger caused by long dry period.

“I know people like farming of maize because it is the regional basic crop but I ask them to change to short-term crops like beans, potatoes, and wheat as one of the measures to deal with the upcoming hunger,” added Sagwe.
