Kisii county commissioner Mr. Chege Mwangi has urged area residents to work with the police and other security agencies to combat criminal related incidents in the region.
Mr. Mwangi who was addressing a huge gathering at Gusii stadium during Jamuhuri day celebrations on Saturday said that a number of suspected criminals were still free because the public isn’t willing to give information.
He said that the county will be able to have relative peace if all residents took the insecurity challenge without necessarily blaming the police whenever criminality incidents occur.
“Members of the public should also be part of restoring security in our county. We don’t get information from members of the public and this makes some criminals walk scot free to every corner of the county. We must be steady and work with the police so that we can curb insecurity,” he said.
Chege said that the police have managed to apprehend a number of suspected criminals and arraigned them in court for prosecution but insisted that the war was far from over till all county residents learn their responsibilities in keeping the country safe.
“You cannot always rely on the police or other government officers like chiefs to fight insecurity. It’s an obligation of all residents and that is why I always persuade you to work with the police by giving information that can lead to apprehension of those involved in acts of criminalities. We have succeeded in arresting a number but the war is far from over,” he added.
