In a press statement read by their secretary, Thomas Maroko at Gusii stadium after this year's Labour Day celebrations, the unionists expressed concern over the Kisii County Government's failure to address the menace of raw sewage.

"We are experiencing breakdown of the sewerage system, leading to overflowing of raw sewage waste in our town streets, much to the detriment of the town dweller’s health," stated Maroko.

Maroko who was flanked by the unions' chairman for the Labor Day celebrations committee, Richard Ming'ate regretted that, despite the sewage flowing across the town, the County Government has out rightly ignored the health hazards posed by the situation and has allowed traders to establish stalls and shops on top of the sewer line where they sell food from.

The unionists challenged Kisii Governor, James Ongwae to address the issue of the poor sewerage system in the town to safeguard the town residents’ lives from contracting poor sanitation and hygiene-related diseases, like cholera.
