Ongwae was addressing mourners on Monday at Gusii stadium during an interdenominational prayer for the slain, where twelve students lost their lives, while 32 others survived the attack.

The governor assured mourners and the affected families that the Kisii County government will give Sh100,000 to the deceased’s’ families, and Sh10,000 to those who survived the attack.

“We as Kisii County government are mourning the sudden demise of young Kenyans whose lives were cut short by the terror attack. We shall give each family who lost their loved ones Sh100,000 and Sh12,000 for the survivors,” he said.

Four buses have also been set aside to facilitate transportation of bodies for those still waiting to transport bodies back home.

The interdenominational prayer attracted thousands of mourners, as locals applauded the county government move to restore normalcy for the affected families.

“We are very grateful for the support county government has offered, we are optimistic that it shall be well, we congratulate the governor efforts,” said a concerned resident.

Present were many leaders from the county, amongst them Members of Parliament, Members of County Assembly, Father Simba of Kisii Diocese, and Lecturers from various institutions.
