FKF Nyanza chairman Yobes Mose while speaking to Citizen digital appealed to the new County Minister in-charge of Sports, Duke Mainga, to hurry up the pace of the construction of the Gusii Stadium.

He said that the completion of the construction of the Stadium will provide a platform for the region to earn income and promote talents.

“The Stadium has been on construction for the last six years, this has really delayed a number of activities and up to now it cannot host any international event like other stadia in the country,” said Mose.“We are asking the county government to partner with FKF and other stakeholders across the sports spectrum to ensure that we are promoting sports activity in our county since we are professionals in various fields,” he added.

The new Sports Minister Mr Duke Mainga has, however, promised to oversee the construction but blaming the previous administration for the sluggish activities at the construction site.

“We have held lengthy talks with His Excellency Governor James Ongwae on various issues concerning stadium, he has promised that in every financial year my office will be receiving some amount to ensure the completion of not only the Gusii Stadium but more others to support not just footballers but all sportsmen,” he said.

Mr Mainga, however, did not reveal the sum of money that has been used in the construction, noting that he was not in charge of the department from the beginning.

Some of the counties that have managed to construct modes stadia since devolution took effect include Machakos County through Kenyatta Stadium, Kakamega (Bukhungu), Uasin Gishu (Kipchoge Keino) and Meru(Kinoru).
