Some of the demonstrators. [Photo/Gusii Star]Kisii county land registrar Mr Steve Mokaya is a man under siege after a lobby group(Gusii Governance Watch) demonstrated to have him sacked or transferred on Wednesday.
The lobby group led by their chairman Mr Jimmy Peter claimed that for a long time Mokaya has been a menace to the public making most of the locals suffer due to his incompetence.
“We have been left to the mercies of incompetent workers and cartels who claim to work in the registry office. They then demand bribes to assist people in the acquisition of documents under his (Mokayas) watch," said Peter.
Peter further claimed that the customer care officers at the registry lack the requisite skills to serve clients with many offering sub-standard services.
”We urge the Cabinet Secretary for Lands Prof Jacob Kaimenyi to restructure and transfer most of the staff at the county due to their poor service delivery to save the public," he added.
The lobby also accused Mr Mokaya of being behind the recruitment of cartels at the land registry office.
“Land in Kisii has been a big problem. We need smooth systematic flow at the registry with Minimal corruption and we need it to be a corruption free zone,” said the lobby secretary Rachel Otundo. An effort to reach land registrar Mr Mokaya for clarification bore no fruits as he never replied to our calls nor messages.
