Kisii County Executive in charge of tourism has reiterated the commitment of the county to make tourism a major source of income.
The assurance comes a few days after the county had a rare opportunity to participate World Travel Market Fair held at ExCel London.
Speaking in Kisii on Friday, County Executive Committee (CEC) member in charge of Trade and Tourism Osoro Kebati said the event provided an opportunity for the county to market its unique products such as soapstone, tea and coffee.
"We had a rare opportunity to network and sell our products besides we were able to share our investment opportunities with other countries. We endeavor to market our economy through tourism industry," said Osoro.
Kisii County which is a major tourist destination in Western Tourism circuit plans to hold a major investment earlier next year.
The county is privileged to have the unique soapstone in the whole world which is widely used for carving.
Osoro observed that the County government is set to put up a high end soapstone industry in Tabaka within South Mugirango Sub-county to add value to soapstone products.
The Tabaka soapstone carvings are exported through fair trade channels to America and Europe.
Several works by Kisii artists have found a major place in major international art collections.
