Speaking on Thursday while awarding state commendations to an executive county member (ECM) and the supreme chairman of the elder’s council Governor James Ongwae disclosed the funding among other projects in the area.

He advised the council to collect artefacts for the proposed Museum to promote cultural tourism and announced funding of cultural festivals in all the sub counties through the ministry of Culture, Sports and Social services.

Ongwae commended the beneficiaries of the state honours, Sarah Omache the (ECM) in charge of Health docket and James Matundura the supreme chairman Abagusii Culture and Development Council for their outstanding service to the nation.

Omache was instrumental in the upgrading of Kisii Level 5 Hospital to a Teaching and Referral facility while Matundura had brokered peace among the Abagusii and Kipsigis communities.

The elders led by Matundura had requested the governor to facilitate acquisition of a 20-acre plot within the town for the Museum project and related services including nurturing talent and production of herbal medicine.

County Commissioner Chege Mwangi who presented the awards on behalf of President Uhuru Kenyatta challenged the beneficiaries to improve in their service delivery to the public.

He said there should be no confusion on work done by the two levels of government since both served the same people.

Abagusii Culture and Development council is a non-political and non-partisan council that unites members of the community spread in Kisii and Nyamira counties.
