Speaking on Friday at Kisii University during the launch of Kisii University workplace policy Against Drug Abuse (ADA), county cabinet secretary for Sports, Youths and Culture Ibrahim Omari said that the county government plans to build a rehabilitation centre.

“Those who have been addicted to drugs can be helped by building a rehabilitation centre for them, where they would be counseled and given advice on how to live without taking drugs,” said Omari.

Omari, who was representing Governor James Ongwae at the occasion urged members of the society to work together with National Authority for the campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) to campaign against drug abuse.

“I urge all members including teachers at schools to join together in fighting against drug abuse, and teach students the side effects of drugs so that they can be aware of them,” urged Omari.

According to Omari, Kisii County Government is fully supporting the fight against drug abuse, and promised to work with NACADA in the same.

He further asked Kisii University students to do more research about the effects of drugs, and share the information with others.

This comes after a research done by NACADA indicated that 2.6 million Kenyans are addicted, and need to be counseled.
