This comes following the Kisii County Government's plan to establish a sugarcane processing factory in the area.

The establishment of the factory will see majority of the local farmers venture into sugarcane farming.

Most farmers in the county have abandoned or uprooted the crop due to lack of reliable market prospects and poor payments from sugar companies.

Bogetenga Ward MCA, Reuben Moreka, has assured local sugarcane farmers that they will now enjoy better returns from the produce following a new sugar processing factory in the region.

Moreka challenged area residents to consider investing in sugarcane farming to enhance their economic empowerment and sustainability of the new factory in the area.

Moreka assured farmers that in the meantime he and other leaders from the area will liaise with the county government to ensure farmers have been facilitated with trucks to ferry their cane produce to sugar factories located away from the area awaiting the establishment of the new factory.

Kisii County Executive Committee Member for Land, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development, Moses Onderi, confirmed that the construction of the new factory will kick off soon.
