Kisii County is set to build up to 500 kilometres of road across the county.
This is in an effort to ease transport problems in rural Kisii.
Governor James Ongwae said his government has prioritised infrastructure development throughout the county and the tenders for the construction of the 72 roads have been advertised.
He said they had reached an agreement with the National Government on re-classification and transfer of resources for the management of roads.
“I urge the National Government to fast track this re-classification to make it easier for us to construct and maintain critical roads in the county like Kisii-Nyatieko-Kegogi road and others,” Ongwae said.
He added that his government has finalised the purchasing of road construction equipment to boost efficiency in road construction. He also noted that in the past one year, they have built over 400 kilometres of roads to the standard of compacted murram.
