Kisii Governor James Ongwae has announced that the county government will do 350km of roads, consisting compacted gravel roads, and further 200km village roads across all the 45 wards in the County during the current 2014/15 financial year.
To deliver on the earmarked road works, Ongwae disclosed that the county government has procured road construction equipment including graders, tippers, drum rollers, shovels and excavators, to fast-track quality construction of roads across the county within the scheduled timelines.
Speaking at the Kisii culture hall during the second Devolution dialogue in the County, the Governor assured Kisii residents that his County Government was determined to ensure all major roads and rural access roads have been made passable.
"As a county government, we have put aside financial and other resources to facilitate timely construction of roads across the 45 wards to enhance our transport system,” stated Ongwae.
The governor underscored the importance with which his government holds infrastructural development as a key contributor to sustainable socio-economic development in the County.
He observed that the county will not exploit its investment potential in areas of agriculture and other sectors of the economy, if there was no efficient infrastructural network in terms of roads which are a medium of transport and communication across the county.
