Kisii County nurses remuneration terms stand to improve in next financial year since the current wage bill will not accommodate it.
According to Kisii County Governor Evans Ongwae, the wage bill is ballooning in the county something that makes it hard to address nurses concerns.
Governor Ongwae said that the county is expected to address the nurse shortage challenge in the coming financial year to allow room for proper preparations.
“Additional nurses are expected to be hired to boost the current establishment. Our County health sector tops the list of other sectors in consuming over half of the budgetary allocations,” said the governor.
The governor decried the high wage bill while addressing nurses marking the National Nurses Week at Nyagoto dispensary in Marani Sub-County on Wednesday.
Ongwae observed that non- communicable diseases were overtaking malaria in terms of prevalence rates and urged the nurses to sustain their efforts in tackling them.
He assured the residents of the provision of mobile clinics by the county government to strengthen preventive health care with a view to cutting down costs on medication.
During the week, nurses in the county engaged in activities including screening of patients with diabetes and hypertension.
