Finally the unpaid Kisii county workers have laughed last, following the county assembly speaker Kerosi Ondieki’s meeting with the workers on Wednesday afternoon within the county executive boardroom in Kisii town.
The four-hour long meeting which was purposely organized to address the plight of the yet to be absorbed Kisii County Assembly employees, who have been working for the last 11 months, decided in one voice that the over 300 workers will be compensated and only 72 advertised positions will be absorbed into the county assembly service board.
The speaker further clarified that, the other remaining workers out of the total 300, will be paid for their 11 month services they have been offering to the county and he requested them to keep off from work stations as the county office embarks on re-organizing their files in order to compensate them.
The meeting with the works also came to a common stand that all those filed suits which are pending in court should be dropped in order to pave way for the compensation process.
The workers who thronged the room expressed their pleasure after an almost one year fighting for their basic right which has finally come to fruition, however they noted their dissatisfaction in the awkward way in which the speaker’s office has been handling the case saying the county in general should look for legally acceptable ways to address issues affecting workers in the future.
